Argentina was distinguished by World Travel Awards as the leading destination in South America

The country received the prestigious award, considered the Oscar of tourism, in a ceremony held in Dubai. Bariloche was highlighted with a special distinction. Here winners of the different categories in the continent.




The World Travel Awards (WTA), a leading authority that recognizes and rewards excellence in travel and tourism, chose Argentina as the Leading Destination in South America ”during a ceremony held yesterday in Dubai. The distinction, considered the "Oscars of Tourism", recognizes and rewards excellence to all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry.

”This recognition to Argentina is a joy. In the most difficult moment, we carry out a strong investment to improve the infrastructure in each province and an intense digital promotion campaign. We have high expectations of welcoming tourists from all over the world to discover our wonderful destinations and generate work in each region of the country ”, reflected the Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Nation, Matías Lammens.


In addition, in the ceremony known as “the Oscars of tourism”, San Carlos de Bariloche was also recognized as a leading destination and awarded to companies that provide tourist services in our country, such as Avis (car rental and rental), Entre Cielos ( boutique hotel), Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Center (convention and business hotel), Park Tower (hotel), St. Regis Suite Park Tower (suite hotel), Iguazú Grand (resort) and the tour operators Say Hueque, Travel 54 and FCM Travel.




During the meeting, the founder of the World Travel Awards, Graham Cooke, said: “Our winners represent the best of the travel and hospitality sectors of Latin America and my congratulations to each one of them. They are all playing a leading role in spearheading the recovery of travel and tourism. "


In the last year prior to the pandemic, Argentina received more than 7 million tourists, which generated revenues of 5.5 billion dollars, the fourth item for the country in foreign exchange earnings. In the face of the post-pandemic reactivation, the Argentine Ministry of Tourism and Sports carried out La Ruta Natural, an initiative to develop and promote nature tourism in each region.


World Travel Awards celebrates excellence in tourism for destinations and companies that provide services worldwide since 1993. Every year it holds regional galas in which members of the public and private sectors of world tourism take part.


In addition to Argentina as the Leading Destination in South America, Chile, for its dazzling variety of natural wonders, were selected as the leading Adventure Tourism Destination in South America; Peru won the award as South America's Leading Culinary Destination, South America's Leading Cultural Destination, and South America's Leading Tourism Office for PromPerú, and South America's Leading Tourist Attraction for Machu Picchu.



There was also the rise of the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo, which was recognized with a victory as South America's Leading Emerging Tourist Destination. Guayaquil, Ecuador, won the award for the Leading Destination in Urban Getaways in South America and Santiago de Cali, Colombia, as the Leading Urban Destination in South American culture.


The incredible biodiversity of Costa Rica was recognized with the title of Leading Destination of Mexico and Central America. Mexico also celebrated with a series of awards to destinations including Cancun (Leading Beach Destination in Mexico and Central America; Cozumel (Leading Island Destination in Mexico and Central America); and Mazatlán (Leading Destination City in Mexico and Central America), with its tropical neoclassical architecture and paradisiacal beach.


In the hospitality sector, the Sofitel Legend Santa Clara Cartagena won the South America Leader Hotel award. Wyndham Guayaquil emerged as the leading city hotel in South America and the Wyndham Quito Airport as the leading airport hotel in South America ”. Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancun was chosen as the leading Hotel in Mexico and Central America and Gaia Hotel & Reserve, Costa Rica was chosen as the leading Green Hotel in Mexico and Central America. The Leading All-Inclusive Resort in Mexico and Central America went to Hacienda Tres Ríos Resort, Spa & Nature Park.


In the Newcomer categories, Brazilian Style and Indigenous Style helped Six Senses Botanique to victory as the New Leader Hotel in South America, with the New Leader Hotel in Mexico and Central America at Dreams Vista Cancun Golf & Spa Resort.




In the aviation sector, LATAM was named the Leading Airline in South America, while Aeroméxico was named the Leading Airline in Mexico and Central America.


The results follow a year-long search of the world's top travel, tourism and hospitality brands. Votes were cast by travel industry professionals and the public, with the nominee obtaining the most votes in the category in which the winner was nominated.


The prizes that were awarded since last October 17 correspond to each continent separately, while the voting of the best destinations in the world is still open.
